| Red Rock's 2010 Souris River Canoe Prices |
Well price shopping is one thing...but a user-friendly, durable, lightweight canoe trumps all of the other junk out there. If you think the term "junk" is too harsh, I can't help you. If the day should ever come that we would no longer be selling Souris River Canoes, that would be the day we would leave the canoe business for good. Other than Souris River, there simply is no other canoe out there that Red Rock would want to stand behind. We know canoes and we know the people who use canoes. We don't care too much about the "elitists" of the canoe world, either. But if you are an ordinary guy/gal wanting lighter, better canoe, nothing currently produced by any other canoe manufacturer even comes close to what our customers are seeking. The saying "you get what you pay for" applies wholeheartedly in this realm. Just remember: nobody ever drowns on a portage. Sounds a bit extreme? When buying a canoe, to consider anything other than the extreme is complete folly on your part. Lakes can go from nice to ugly in mere seconds. Odds are good that you will experience that "one moment in time" when you wish you'd have thought this out better while you find yourself suddenly in 3.5 foot whitecaps. Should you choose a canoe unwisely grasshopper, I hope only the best befalls you. We don't want to see anybody get hurt, ever.
To counteract the negative effects and flat-out tall tales by Brand X sales people visit my Baloney Vortex for details concerning epoxy resin and Souris River Canoes.

EMAIL US INCLUDE YOUR ZIP CODE Shipping Heads-Up (to avoid sticker-shock): Shipping via common carrier (big truck) to the east and west coasts and some of the less-traveled, more remote areas of the US costs between $550 and $750 per canoe. Shipping to the more central US runs between $300-$650 depending on where you are relative to major truck routes. If you live anywhere in MN, WI, ND, SD and even IA, it makes the most sense to pick up at Red Rock and take a mini or major vacation in the Ely area while doing so. We can hold your purchased canoe here at no additional charge until it is convenient for you to pick up.

Wilderness 18
Popular in its day prior to the Quetico 17 arrival. Exact same cargo space as Quetico 17. This hull is more agile in turning than the Quetico 17. Also much tippier with the shallow-arched bottom when traveling empty. Stable with a load, fast handles rough water well. Only 9" longer than Quetico 17 with 4.5" in front and 4.5" in back. 1200 lb. max payload. 2" rocker. |

Prospecter 16
Fun to paddle, heavily rockered (4") canoe with traditional round bottom. Definitely for truly advanced paddlers because it's capable of doing all sorts of things the average canoe paddler is not remotely interested in doing. Turns on a dime but will track like a laser beam in the hands of an expert. If you aren't an expert with a J-Stroke, et al, this is not the canoe for you. You will find it tippy and "squirrely" (a term often used by paddlers & XC skiers with less defined skills and knowledge of the equipment) 800 lb. max payload. |

| Option | Added Weight |
Purpose of this option: |
Do you need it? |
Extra Cost |
| Bow Seat Slider | 2 lbs. | Allows you to slide little kid or small woman forward to trim out the canoe increasing stability of canoe. They can then also reach the sides better for paddling, too. |
If you have someone under 5 feet tall up front or a 280+ lb. guy in the back with an 80 lb. kid in the front seat, yes, it can be helpful. More effective in the Wilderness 18 than the Queticos due to different hull shapes and freeboard. The Wilderness is deeper up front. |
$100.00 |
| Foot Brace | 1 lbs. | Allows rear paddler to rest feet up against it to aid in paddling hard and turning. |
If you are into racing or paddling so hard that you pull yourself ahead off the seat, yes. Otherwise, no, it's just extra junk that gets in the way. Kayak foot braces actually work better with no obtrusive cross piece eating up with floor space. |
$60.00 |
|
Padded Clamp-on Yoke Pads |
1.5 lbs | Makes even a super-light canoe MUCH easier to carry, not to mention tupperware canoes (royalex) and boat-anchor canoes (polyethylene). | If you think duct-taping the foam from a rotten, old, life jacket to the wood yoke is OK, then there's no help for you. For the rest of the canoeing world, you'd be NUTS not to spend the extra money, I don't care how light the canoe is! Did I emphasize the word NUTS hard enough? | $44.95 (Less with RRGC) |
| Woven Color | O lbs. | Makes a regular "butterscotch" colored kevlar or Duralite Souris River Canoe look spectacular - but it STILL scratches so don't be shocked. ALL canoes scratch, period. | If you want cutting-edge color that can't be scratched off, that is not gel coat, that does not add any extra weight, spend the extra $100. Nobody in the canoe world has this anywhere! It re-finishes to about 85% with marine varnish. For absolute BEST refinishing, get Le Tigre Kevlar, not Woven Color. | $150.00 |
| Wood Trim Package | 8 lbs. | Makes canoe prettier, also adds maintenance factor, weight, and cost to an ultralight canoe. | If you believe that everyone is looking at you and your canoe, OR if you like to pay a lot more for added weight and maintenance, OR it you like to believe the baloney that wood trim is quieter than aluminum trim and the walleyes down below really DO care, then yes, you need this. Otherwise, save the cash, eliminate the headache & get the black or gold trim. | $290.00 |
