I have several hundred hours in using underwater cameras. I’ve seen more fish ignore my lures than guppies in a dentist office tank and having a camera makes it lots of fun. Some people find it frustrating to be ignored…I do not when it comes to fish. You learn a lot about the fish and how your tackle works with an underwater camera. You can also entertain yourself with your puppet master abilities. That being said, I started out with the first black and white cameras and continue to see no reason even today to go a color camera. After 12 feet, the color fades from water and your camera goes black and white on you regardless. And, if you’ve ever been fishing, you already know what color the fish is so it seems irrelevant. Mainly, you want to see the fish. That’s all.
Well, clearly, nobody is listening to my thoughts on color underwater cameras and technology keeps plowing ahead. It’s getting harder to find B & W cameras so no use fighting it. That being said, these new Marcum Recon cameras are really nice and because they are so sharp nowadays, they can be smaller than the great big , bulky CRT’s of the past. LED screens have come a long way in a short amount of time increasing your view on smaller lighter equipment and these new Marcum Recons are no different. They come in a nice case and take less floor, cargo space than the older cameras.
There is the Marcum Recon and Marcum Recon Plus which costs more money. The regular is a basic camera still with plenty of features. The Recon PLUS includes:
- Built-In DVR (Digital Video Recorder) or Record to External Micro SD Card (Up-to 32GB Micro SD Card, not included)
- Playback and Delete
That in a nutshell is the difference between the two models and explains the price difference.
So, if you want record what you see on your own supplied SD card so you can go home and prove you saw a fish ignore your Rapala, the Recon Plus is the way to go.
